The magazine release has been modified to work with AK47 magazines. Really, the SKS-KD Classic rifle is a competitor to the SKS-D.Generally the difference is in milled vs. stamped receiver. Kind of like Pre vs. post 1964 Winchester Model 94's. The Russian SKS is considered best quality due to milled out of solid steel parts. Where the Chinese and some other are made of cheaper stamped parts.
